Budleigh Slaterton is a small town with a population of around 8,000 that sits on the south coast of England, more specifically in East Devon. That population will be swelled substantially in the summer by visitors to the area.
The town site on the mouth of the River Otter and is in part of what is deemed an area of outstanding natural beauty. The coast itself is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the cliffs there are prone to frequent falls and lingering beneath them is not advised. It is also on the South West Coast Path (as featured in The Salt Path).
The area is popular with bird watchers as the mouth of the River Otter is deemed a SSSI and a haven for migratory birds with its bed of reeds and marsh for grazing.
Within the town is a museum and the one small high street has all the shops you would expect to find in a small town but none of them are what could be considered “Chain-Stores”.
